The Rothschild Haggadah facsimile
The ROTHSCHILD HAGGADAH, treasure of the Israel Museum Jerusalem, is exceptional for its elegant and elaborate illustrations of the Passover story. This copiously illuminated and illustrated Haggadah comprises the Ashkenazi Passover-eve service as we know it today. In the margins is Maimonides' Hilkhot Hamez Umatsah, 'Laws Concerning Leavened and Unleavened Bread'. In addition, the piyyutim are exquisitely illuminated with fine miniatures.
---The facsimile was printed in up to 11 colours on a specially made parchment paper and burnished gold was copied by laying metal leaf by hand to a raised surface. Sample leaves measure 21 x 15.6cm (8.25 x 6.10in).
Hold your mouse over an image for an enlargement and over the blue button for a description of the leaf. Both sides of a leaf are only shown if they are both decorated. The low resolution images displayed on this page do not accurately represent the beauty of the finished leaves.
